established in 1974
Afield was established in 1974 as a brick-and-mortar art gallery based in Evansville, Indiana, in the Midwest United States, on land that rightfully belongs to the Shawnee, Osage, and Kickapoo Native tribes.
We were founded by a wife and husband, who raised their three children while building the business. Both generations of the family are still actively involved. After doing business as "Indian Image Gallery", we rebranded as Afield Art in 2022.
Since our beginning, we've worked directly with Indigenous artists to sell their art and support them in building community with their collectors.
new century, new home (page)
In 2001 we underwent our first digital transformation -- we closed the doors of our IRL (in real life) storefront and opened a virtual art gallery to offer our collectors an online shopping experience.

reinvented (again) in 2022
In 2021, we began transitioning our web 2.0 online storefront toward web3.
Now, we're selling art as NFTs.
Each Afield Art collection is sold as limited-edition non-fungible tokens (NFT) on the Polygon blockchain. Each NFT is accompanied by a numbered physical print or 3D-printed physical model - shipped to the collector's door.
Our genesis collections are based on the art of Paladine H. Roye -- one of our favorite artists and a dear friend of the family (RIP).
Our gallery also features collections from our community of Artist Collaborators. We support Artist Collaborators in their creative, personal, and professional journeys and offer them an onramp to web3 and NFTs.
If you're interested in the Artist Collaborators program, learn more in the "How we work..." section below and reach out from there!

Rooted in justice
Since our early days, we've advocated for Native rights and the prosperity of Native families.
In the 1980s, we worked with tribes to organize reburial ceremonies in Kentucky, USA. In 2016 we raised awareness and donated proceeds of sales to the Water Protectors of #DAPL in North Dakota and and #StopLine3 in Minnesota.
Today, we offer free educational resources to support artists who want to leverage web3 tools to achieve personal financial stability and build generational wealth.

Earth-friendly Art
We take care to ensure that Afield Art is as environmentally friendly as possible. We mint our NFTs on the Polygon blockchain -- a side-chain of the Ethereum blockchain that is relatively energy and eco-friendly. We work with printers and suppliers to minimize waste and use sustainable materials and efficient supply chains. We offset the emissions of shipping physical prints.

How We Work with Artists & Collectors
We collaborate with and support contemporary artists who are exploring web3, interested in selling art as NFTs, and hope to connect with their community of collectors in creative, meaningful ways.
Our family has been working with artists for almost 50 years, supporting their efforts to support their families with their art.
We give a portion of all sales from our genesis collection to the artists and/or their families.
Collectors of Afield Art receive a digital copy of the art they purchase, in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT) and a physical, 2D or 3D printed version of the art shipped to your door.
50% of sales from our genesis collection go into a community treasury, which is used to purchase art supplies for Afield Artist Collaborators.

Artists
Paladine H. Roye
Paladine was a dear friend of our family and worked with us extensively throughout his career as an artist. A significant portion of our collection is comprised of a variety of Paladine's work, reflecting his creative evolution over the years.
We're sad that Paladine is no longer making new art, and we're equally honored and grateful to share with the world the gift he left for us all -- his paintings, each a representation of his kind, full-hearted spirit.
